Concerned About the Health of Amy Goodman
Whenever I sit to work at my computer my first impulse is always to catch-up on all of the episodes of Democracy Now at www.democracynow.com that I've missed in the past week while I do so. Today I watched three video streams from the corner of my eye starting with the Thursday, September 27th, 2007 show and ending on Monday, October 1st, 2007. Upon the beginning of the last viewed stream from today an unusual detail caught my undivided attention, Amy Goodman, world renowned journalist and the show's host, was speaking from only one side of her mouth and only blinking the eye on the same side of her face. In fact her whole face seemed skewed to one side even though her voice and speaking sounded for the most part normal.
I could only speculate as to the cause of Amy's facial disfigurement, at first believing it might be the result of local anesthesia administered by her dentist but, after considering that she was on the road and that she does her show rather early in the morning, ruled it out as unlikely that she would have even paid an emergency visit to a local dentist just before the show. My next thought was more horrifying, I thought what if she has suffered some kind of a small stroke... no, no, no, no. It can't be, she wouldn't be doing the show but lying in a hospital bed instead. Or, what if she was poisoned by the CIA and doesn't know it yet, maybe... maybe not. Well then, what happened to Amy Goodman?
I checked the Democracy Now Website but saw no mention and then searched google but nothing related turned up. So I decided to post my first blog and here it is.
I hate to think that one day we will loose Amy Goodman but the thought of loosing her sooner rather than later is disheartening especially if it is her own doing. What do I mean by that? Well, what if, even though Amy Goodman is a brilliant journalist, this is only the result of her being clueless and lax about her own health. When will we ever learn?

Yesterday, Amy Goodman graciously acknowledged her many viewers expressing concern over her health with a thank you and explanation that she has a temporary condition known as Bells palsy, which is an irritation of a facial nerve (making it hard to smile as does the state of the world), and that her doctors say she should fully recover in a few weeks.
Thank you so much, Seas. That information is what I needed to feel better - I wish Dem. Now had been smart enough to have that on the site for people who hadn't heard her statement.
Here's an excerpt from http://www.bellspalsy.ws/:
WHAT ABOUT RECOVERY FROM BELL'S PALSY?
Approximately 50% of Bells palsy patients will have essentially complete recoveries in a short time. Another 35% will have good recoveries in less than a year.
Regardless of the trigger, Bell's palsy is best described as an event - trauma to the nerve. As with any other injury, healing follows. The quality and duration of recovery is dependent on the severity of the initial injury. If the nerve has suffered nothing more than a mild trauma, recovery can be very fast, taking several days to several weeks. An "average" recovery is likely to take between a few weeks and a few months. The nerve regenerates at a rate of approximately 1-2 millimeters per day, and can continue to regenerate for 18 months, probably even longer. Improvement of appearance can continue beyond that time frame.
Maybe she was infected with Lyme Disease.
I think she is replaced and at the time of this video the replacement was not completely recovered from her surgery. This is bothering me for a while because Amy Goodman of today is much more conservative and main stream than the old Amy I used to know. I don't listen to her anymore.
I have still been listening/watching DemNow even though I am fully aware that they have some corporate backing, but today she honestly looks like death warmed over. Lipstick would help, but I understand that she does not care that much about how she looks, and since I do not usually wear makeup, I get it--but I am not on tv.
